Nissan GT-R Nismo Teased World Record Revealed As Fastest Drift

Posted on: 2016-04-08

The well-known hardcore Nissan GT-R Nismo is going to be registered in the Guinness Book of Records for its latest feat – the fastest ever drift performed.

Not long ago Nissan teased us to a GT-R Nismo that delivered yet another world record but the juicy details were mysteriously kept under wraps. Now the company is delivering us the full scoop and we found out its sports car has managed to nail a new world record for the fastest ever drift. With a specifically developed and tuned 2016 GT-R developed with input, support and under the guidance of the Nismo specialists, Masato Kawabata was the driver behind the wheel at the time of the record. Kawabata is the Japanese drift champion and title holder for the Japanese drifting series, and he attained a drift speed of 189.49 miles per hour (304.96 kilometers per hour) at a 30 degrees angle. The record run took place during a unique event at Fujairah International Airport, UAE.

Nissan says the model they used for the stunt had been modified to develop 1,380 horsepower (1,105 kilowatts) and all that massive power was sent to the rear wheels. Before the actual feat the vehicle was also extensively prototyped at Japan’s Fuji Speedway facility with Kawabata at the wheel and GReddy Trust also partnered with Nissan and Nismo. “Once again, Nissan has broken a Guinness World Records title and has made international history for the fifth time in the Middle East,” said Samir Cherfan, managing director of Nissan Middle East.
