All New 10th Generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class Launched!

Posted on: 2016-06-10

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia this morning unveiled the all-new 10th generation E-Class, almost a whole seven years after the W212 version launched in late 2009. With the luxury executive sedan showcasing a tagline titled 'Masterpiece of Intelligence', it now joins its siblings, the W205 C-Class and flagship W222 S-Class to complete the trio line up of the brand's sedans locally.

On the exterior, the new E-Class highlights its signature characteristics. Short overhangs, long wheelbase, elongated bonnet coupled with a coupe-like roof that flow into a sleek tail end creates that silhouette in its current identity. The three-variant lines at the launch - E 250 Exclusive, E 200 & E 250 Avantgarde and E 300 AMG will feature a similar 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder in-line engine across all lines, with horsepower ranging from 184 hp for the E 200 and 245 hp for the E 300.

Where the new E-Class shines is in the craftsmanship and attention to detail that truly showcases the brand's commitment to luxury, as can be seen in the interior. Immediately noticable is the connection between the display within the instrument cluster and central display, all contained within what Mercedes-Benz calls the widescreen cockpit. The driver can choose between three different styles to select their preferred look, ranging from "Classic, Sport and Progressive." As the entire cockpit is digital, the driver will be able to configure information and views to their own preference and personality. Materials inside is lush and luxurious, with wood featuring flowing lines, and optionally leather-covered doors in various shades of brown.

Controls to the instrument cluster and multimedia system can be operated through the steering wheel or the Touchpad Controller in the centre console. For the former, the touch sensitive pad on both sides of the wheel can be swiped around similar to that of a smartphone interface, while the latter can be used for a complete system functions including air-conditioning and is also handwriting recognition. The brand's own Comand system now also comes with Online features, that allows compatible mobile phones to charge and connect to the car's own exterior aerial without the need for cables.

nterior lighting can be customised from a range of 64 colours, that extend to the trim parts, central display, front stowage on central console, handle recesses, door pockets, front and rear footwells among others.

Safety isn't skimped on either, as the brand's highlighting assistance and safety systems can be found here. Active Brake Assist and Attention Assist comes standard across all variants while others include Pre-Safe impulse side, Parking Pilot, Pre-Safe Sound, and more.
