Honda Malaysia today set a new benchmark for the level of luxury for executive sedan with the launch of the new redesigned 9th generation Accord today.
The Accord, which celebrated its 40th anniversary this year is the flagship model of Honda and with over 75,000 units of it on Malaysian roads, the Accord has consistently ranked as the favorite executive sedan since its introduction in 2001 in Malaysia, thanks to its DNA of quality, refinement and premium.
“According to our internal data, the Total Industry Volume (TIV) from January to August this year fell about 15% compared to the same period last year. With our total sales from January to August 2016 at 55,751 units, we managed to maintain our position as the #1 in the non-National segment. For the same period, our market share improved from 13% to 15% and this allowed Honda to maintain the #2 position in the overall TIV,” said Mr Katsuto Hayashi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Honda Malaysia at the launch ceremony.
“During this challenging period, customers would be more conscious in their spending and will look for a vehicle that gives not only value for money but best overall package in terms of sales and after sales. We find that Malaysian customers still favor “sedan” vehicles over other vehicle types. Therefore, it is crucial for us to be able to offer a complete sedan series to our customers. The New Accord offers a new level of expectation in the executive sedan and further completes our sedan series line-up of City, Civic and Accord in Malaysia,” added Mr. Hayashi.
Honda Malaysia will be making three variants of the New Accord available in the market – namely the 2.0 VTi, 2.0 VTi-L and the 2.4 VTi-L which is powered by Honda’s revolutionary “Earth Dreams Technology” engine for an even more exhilarated drive and better fuel efficiency.
The new Accord is redesigned with two goals – the make the car more sophisticated yet masculine and it was achieved by the upgrade of a totally new front bumper design, a stylish set of LED headlights and combi tail-lamps, a bolder winged-front coupled with a two-toned black and silver alloy for the dynamic outlook.
In the interior, the new Accord is fitted with a 7-inch Touch Screen Advanced Display Audio unit with i-MID that is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ready. The unit also comes with Handsfree Telephone Control with Voice Recognition and MirrorLink features that complete the ease of communications and entertainment on the drive.
Honda Malaysia has also upped the premium offerings of the new Accord by adding on a class-above features for its customers. The new 2.0 VTi base variant now comes with Smart Entry, Push-Start Button and Cruise Control while the best selling 2.0 VTi-L carries added features such as the award winning Honda LaneWatch, AutoDim Rearview Mirror, Auto Wiper, Front Passenger Power Seats, Side Airbags and Side Curtain Airbags. The flagship 2.4 VTi-L carries the new full LED headlamps, new 18-inch alloy, LED Active Cornering Lights, Paddle Shifters, Power Rear Sunshade, Premium Sound System with Subwoofer, and Hydrophilic Door Mirrors.
Safety has always been top on the list for Honda and all three variants of the new Accord now comes with six airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Multi-Angle Rearview Camera and ISOfix.
The class-leading New Accord are offered in five colors – namely the Obsidian Blue Pearl, White Orchid Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic and the Crystal Black Pearl.
Honda Malaysia is targeting to sell 500 units of the new Accord a month which is priced from RM 144,800 for the 2.0VTi, RM 153,800 for the 2.0 VTi-L and RM 172,800 for the 2.4 VTi-L respectively. The prices above are OTR prices and the new Accord comes with 5-years warranty with unlimited mileage at 10,000 km service intervals.
