PETALING JAYA: Some 1,400 errant motorists face the risk of being blacklisted by the Road Transport Department (RTD) for failing to settle their outstanding traffic compounds.

Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said that these are among the drastic action the city council took against those who refuse to settle their summonses or compound despite constant reminder and warning notices being sent to them.

"This is part of the outcome from the cooperation that we have with RTD where we will sent them the list of motorists who refuse to settle their outstanding traffic compound.

"Once blacklisted, these motorists would not be able to renew their road tax or vehicle insurance unless they have fully settle all the outstanding compounds regardless it is from the local council or police," Mohd Azizi said when disclosing the details of the council's enforcement report for 2016.

In the report, it was stated that there were a total of 203,763 compounds issued under the Road Transport Order (PPJ), 308,985 compound under Pay and Display (PND), 4,382 for vehicles that have been towed by the council, and 2,988 for wheel clamping.

Mohd Azizi said the enforcement action taken are in accordance with the respective enactment and by-laws of the offence committed.

"These offences include carrying out business activities without valid license or permit, violation of license conditions, obstruction and among others.

"The enforcement team would double-up their effort for this year as a means to educate and discipline the traders, entrepreneurs, premise owners and motorists to always adhere to the laws," he said.
