Parliament: KPKT to Handle Sale of Houses Under Bumiputera Quota

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) will consult with state governments and developers to allow the Ministry to sell unsold Bumiputera units, the Dewan Rakyat was told Wednesday.

Its minister, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said this was to ensure that units allocated under the Bumiputera quota were not sold in the open market.

"Upon expiry of the holding period set by the state government, the developers should allow three months cooling period, for the ministry to sell the bumiputera units before releasing them to the open market.

"This will give the ministry an opportunity to seek for qualified buyers and the houses may be sold to them at the original offer price," he said in the winding up debate on the Supply Bill 2016 in the Dewan Rakyat, here.

Abdul Rahman said he had received complaints from developers that the bumiputera units were difficult to sell, and at the same time buyers were complaining that the bumiputera units were often sold out.
